COSEA is the outcome of two projects, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme. Two consortiums are working together to create a modern, communication-rich and scaleable Citizen Science and Public Engagement toolkit, that can be co-used by other stakeholders and organizations.

The involved core partners are:

The main objective of the TRANSEATION project is to demonstrate how certain structures, both natural and man-made, can effectively protect and restore the health of our marine ecosystems. These structures, known as hybrid blue-gray infrastructures, represent a new approach to managing our ecosystems.

This approach combines natural solutions with digital technology and considers the social impacts of these interventions. In other words, we are not only looking at how these structures can help nature, but also how they can benefit society as a whole. This project is about protecting our oceans and coasts and ensuring that they can continue to provide us with their many benefits.

The aim of EFFECTIVE is to promote the establishment of large-scale marine protected areas in European seas (30% by 2030) through innovative marine ecosystem restoration and different scales of observation and monitoring that enable an integrated approach involving governance, participation and social engagement and a new ecosystem-based management framework for shared natural and socio-economic contexts. The main objective of EFFECTIVE is to develop a comprehensive scientific knowledge base and practical guidance combining science, technological nature-based solutions and digitalization for the application of ecosystem-based management to protect and restore the EU's blue natural capital in the Mediterranean.
